15.5.12 - Carolyn - 63 Days to go
Last
week I called in to meet Richard at David Austin Roses, Albrighton. Another
family based Shropshire firm but known worldwide. We discussed the options and luckily Richard
agreed with my first choice of Munstead and Lady Emma Hamilton, however
selecting a rose to represent the dog-rose is not as easy but with Richard’s
knowledge he suggested Kew Gardens which is a white small single flower with
yellow stamens so I think this will do very well.
The
cold weather is definitely a bonus when it comes to roses for Tatton Show;
unfortunately not so good for the twisted willow trees it’s not looking happy
and has developed small pieces of dry-back. The cold temperatures means that
plant growth is held back, with the exception of those plants which Mum is
looking after; maybe I should move them all !!!

Chalon - Sam - May 2012
Hi guys - it would seem we are heading into the summer months now, doesn't time fly! With the success of our Easter Sale, it has been extended an extra week until 8th May. Give us a call at Chalon Knutsford to find out more 01565 745 878.
We also have a brand new piece of furniture in the showroom. A period pine finished larder with beautiful curved ends and a Liebherr larder fridge in stainless steel (which is being delivered tomorrow) - pictures to follow. This piece is a fantastic solution for much larger, ugly American fridge freezers. Why not pop in to take a look, Chalon, 50 King Street, Knutsford.

27.4.12 - Carolyn - 81 Days to go!
To
sum up: Steve is looking after the
Willows (the best tree suffering from the cold weather) plus growing on Equisetum
hyemaile, Astrantia and Geranium. My Mum
is looking after the Knautia I purchased from Chelford. Andrew is investigating avenues for the water
elements and thinking about construction.
I need to sort out the roses and Gothic Arches next and pot on the
remaining plants bought from Chelford.

A
very long day today with a planned visit to S3i Stainless Steel Solutions and
Natural Paving. This will be a 265 mile
round trip across the Pennines, luckily Andrew is with me and the weather is
good for driving.
Firstly
we meet Nick at S3i; the firm set up by two brothers (Nick being one) they
produce quality stainless steel balustrade with a system invented and unique to
them. Neil spends 2½ hours with us discussing technical details and giving
us a tour of the workshops. Neil will
travel to Tatton for the installation ensuring a fabulous finish.
Next
straight onto to Natural Paving with no time for lunch. Again myself and Andrew receive a very warm
welcome. Natural Paving was set up in
2005 using ethically sourced
natural stone and the firm runs with a small team of close knit individuals
creating a feeling of a family business, Modern Romantics will be created by
passionate people (no conglomerates here).

My second visit to F P
Matthews, this time accompanied by Steve (K&S Nursery). The Betula Royal Frost will be a major
feature in the garden, so it’s important to keep a check on their
progress. Unfortunately with the recent
cold weather, the trees are still not in leaf.
However 5 large specimens are selected and Steve (another Steve from the
tree nursery) will care for them. As a
result of this visit, a potential problem emerged. The trees are grown in pots with a cane for
support, canes are not allowed in a show garden and Tatton Park is extremely
windy ..............just an extra thing to think about!

Today I must do the Show Media form, only 1 day late, so I
call in for a coffee at Abbeywood Gardens to start composing the form in their
cafe. I get the bulk of this done so I
decide on a quick walk round the garden for some fresh air. On my way round I spot some Anthriscus sylvestris 'Ravenswing' purple
cow parsley, which is on the plan. The
owner, Jane passes me saying hello and I explain why I’m looking at the cow parsley. To my surprise she agrees to dig some up and
pot them on, as many as 20, what a stroke of luck. Later on I received an email from Jane and
she has potted 30 up, wow.
